While most folks talk hockey or football in Alberta there are many other sports that draw smaller but no less enthusiastic crowds. Our Okotoks Dawgs deliver a consistent high quality professional baseball just outside of Calgary. Now what is baseball without the option of grabbing a beer, but for those seated near third base it was a bit of a hike back to the concessions.
Since our CTO Jake was once a very good baseball player and former Dawg himself YMMV Industrial was up for the task of transforming some of the tank level monitoring we are doing for other customers into keg levels and cooking temperature in the portable concession kiosk.
One thing we had not anticipated was radio interference from a few nearby businesses which have their own fleet radios. We modified a radio receiver to use the frequency we were collecting data on and interfaced that with the RC Switch monitoring solution we published on our git hub. It turns out the root cause was someone using a remote controlled drone that they purchased online somewhere. It was operating outside of the ISM band, possibly just due to cheap radio construction. The drone owner has since been advised their unit appears to be causing interference and they have agreed to get that checked out.
A good day for baseball fans and a good example of YMMV Industrial’s commitment to community spirit and safe radio use.
